A UN delegation headed by the Assistant Secretary General, Mr. Miroslav Jenĉa called on President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom this morning at the President's Office.
During the meeting, the President briefed the delegation on the current political situation of the Maldives. The President highlighted that the Political Party Talks are one of the important ways to build confidence between the relevant political actors in the country. That could also create a conducive environment on which the Government could focus on implementing the economic development projects and accelerate the democracy consolidation process.
The Assistant Secretary General welcomed the Government's initiative to hold the Party Talks and assured the assistance of the UN to hold the talks at the earliest.
The President was accompanied in the meeting by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E Ms. Dunya Maumoon, The Foreign Secretary Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed and the Under Secretary at the President's Office, Mr. Mohamed Naseer.
